This tablecloth has enjoyed a presence at family weddings for several generations. My grandmother and each of her four sisters, like my great-grandmother and great aunts before them, used this tablecloth to set the cake table at their wedding ceremonies. My great-aunt, the keeper of the tablecloth, doesn’t remember where it originally came from but was the last sister to use it at her wedding in Houston, Texas in 1957. Unfortunately, the next generation of family members was largely male, but hopefully, future generations of women will pick the tradition back up again one day soon.
