Platter from materials in 4 parts of the world

Mosaic on platter being created in Mt Nebo

Platter from materials in 4 parts of the world: Australia, Florida, Hawaii and Jordan

This platter was turned from Norfolk pine which is native to the Norfolk island, a tiny Australian island in the southern Pacific, but grows in Florida and Hawaii. It is a beautiful wood with unusual patterns. The mosaic of the “tree of life” came from a trip to Mt. Nebo in Jordan where Byzantine floor mosaics memorialized Moses who saw the Land of Canaan from mountain. This mosaic was made in a shop there. Its pattern and color fit with the Norfolk pine characteristics and I incorporated it into the base of the platter.
