De Scott Evans’s painting is a prime example of his trompe l’oeil (“fool the eye”) paintings. The arrangement is deliberately simple: the drinking glass that serves as a modest container for the flowers hangs askew from a nail on the wall. The artist’s signature, in the pseudonym S. S. David, appears on a scrap of paper nailed to the wooden panel beneath the precarious bouquet, at risk of being washed away.

La pintura de Scott Evans es un ejemplo excelente de sus obras de trompe l’oeil (“trampantojo” o trampa ante el ojo). La composición es deliberadamente simple: un vaso, que hace de modesto recipiente de unas flores, cuelga ladeado de un clavo en la pared. La firma del autor, bajo el seudónimo de S. S. David, aparece en un trozo de papel clavado al panel de madera que está detrás del precario ramillete, en peligro de que el agua caiga sobre él.
